Creating KOMPAS Chronicles – a short film series to showcase the myriad of individuals within the KOMPAS community.
The KOMPAS community ranges from ex-professional athletes healing their relationship with sport, to weekend warriors, to first time bike riders who are eager to explore and make friends. A culture of individuals, all with their own unique story to tell. The KOMPAS Chronicles series seeks to share these unique stories through a succession of short films.
The vision of KOMPAS Chronicles is to document and showcase these unique stories in a way that champions everyone equally – demonstrating the patchwork nature of KOMPAS. The hope is to one day have an entire library of unique short films where someone who is new to KOMPAS could go in, watch, and find a story that resonates with them.

THE CHALLENGE
KOMPAS needed a platform to share stories and spread their message beyond the confines of in-person interactions.
KOMPAS relied heavily on community engagement to spread its message. Word of mouth and intimately experiencing the energy and welcoming attitude of the group were their biggest marketing tool. How could we leverage this spirit, distill it down to its essence, and then shape it into a consumable media form so that people all over the country could know what KOMPAS is about?
THE APPROACH
KOMPAS Chronicles - a series of short films showcasing the stories of community members.
What separates KOMPAS from other community/cycling groups is their ability to create a space for all people. No matter your ability, your age, or your background, there is a place for you in the KOMPAS community. I had the idea to distill this spirit into easily consumable short films that showcase the varying individuals that comprise the KOMPAS Community.
Starting with the founders, Texas and Grayson, I planned, shot, directed, and edited a short film chronicling the origin story of KOMPAS, the journey of the founders to get to this point, and the spirit they bring to the cycling community.
The second film, which is yet to release, centers around KOMPAS community member Allie and shares the story of her departure from elite sports, her battle with establishing a healthy relationship around sport, and what it’s like trying to transition in to cycling as a female.
THE RESULT
The first short film in the KOMPAS Chronicles series, ‘Origin Story’, premiered at a Patagonia community event.
As part of an ongoing brand relationship with Patagonia, we successfully launched our first short film in the KOMPAS Chronicles series, ‘Origin Story’, at a Patagonia community event and movie screening. The event had a massive turnout and set the scene for future events as additional short films are released in the KOMPAS Chronicles series.
‘Origin Story’, was also shared across social media platforms and YouTube, and has helped immensely in relationship building with brands.
